Yoga began as a way for me to navigate through all the distractions and challenges life throws at you, to sit and breathe through them and feel empowered by discovering an inner strength. As my practice deepened, I was drawn to the physicality of a strong asana but I had to manoeuvre my practice around a debilitating injury. In a world that celebrates achieving more and doing more, it was a gentle reminder to me that Yoga isn't about having the strongest asana. Yes, find the physicality in it but do it with integrity and find peace with whatever your body is doing on that day and in that moment, because that's all you have. Whether I'm teaching a physical, strong and mindful Flow or a more gentle, nurturing Restorative Practice, or even complete stillness leading a Sound Mediation or Nidra, I try to encourage a presence of being. I recognise that we all need different things from Yoga at different times in our lives – that's ageing, injury, illness or even grief – change is our only constant in this world. Whatever shape you're making and whatever breath you're taking, that is it, that's all there is.
Coming from a fitness background & growing up competing in various fields, I’ve always pushed myself. But often this mindset of constantly having the foot down has been detrimental. Because of this I’ve never wanted to let personal development slip but evolve. Which is why I aim for people to become balanced. Mentally, physically & emotionally. Being a yoga teacher I like to bring an element of mindfulness to my classes. Learning to listen to the body to build strength where it’s needed in order to achieve this balance.
